Next Meeting Our next meeting will be held online on Wednesday, May 6th, from 7:00-8:30pm (6:30 to catch up with your friends and meet new people).
Given the Stay-at-Home order through May 8th, our general meeting on Wednesday, May 6th will be a video conference call. Online networking will be offered from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. If you have never used Zoom before, you may wish to go to their website ahead of time and download Zoom software. https://zoom.us/ At the time of the meeting, click on the meeting link sent in the CAS email.
The 6:30 - 7 pm networking session will be hosted and facilitated by Shruti Mehta, our Vice President. You are invited to join in to share your Stay-at-Home stories, advice on coping and to informally socialize with fellow artists.
The 7 - 8:30 pm meeting will follow. Our presentation will focus on getting your work out there digitally with a two-part presentation, “Creating an Online Presence" and "Selling Art Online”. Our presenters will be members, Lisa Zinna and Leslie Kell. You can check out their websites (lisazinna.com and lesliekell.com) ahead of time, as these are exemplary sites. We are fortunate to have the benefit of Lisa's and Leslie's expertise. The CAS Board felt these subjects would be most relevant and helpful to our artists given our current circumstances. There will also be a brief update on the status of our exhibits and our new Members Resources Page. We will conclude with a Q & A session that will be open to any CAS or presentation-related questions.
The video conference will be limited to 100 participants. We anticipate that this will be more than sufficient but we will also record the meeting and post a link to the video recording on our Members Resources Page (Refer to CAS Exhibits & Events section for details).
Meetings are held four times each year on the first Wednesday of February, May, September and November from 7:00-8:30pm.

President's MessageI hope that everyone is safe and well during these challenging times.
The health and well-being of our members and our community continue to be the top priority for us. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and understanding during these unusual circumstances.
For the duration of the Stay-At-Home order, our Calls for Art and exhibit change outs (art pickups, drop offs and installations) are suspended. Art that is currently in place will remain in place. Once the order is lifted, Venue Coordinators will be in contact with the venues and affected artists. For Rotating Exhibits, artists will be given the option of leaving their pieces in place through the next exhibit cycle. Our special events are also on hold, as we await decisions by the venues, which in turn are dependent on the roll out of business openings. Thank you for your patience as things get sorted out.
Even after the order is lifted, if you are in a high-risk group for COVID-19 or self-quarantining and not able to pick up your art, we understand and only ask that you please let the Venue Coordinator know ASAP.
If you are unsure about any art drop-offs or pick-ups please contact the Venue Coordinator. We continue to be grateful to our Venue Coordinators for handling this extra work.
Given that our in-person opportunities are limited, the CAS board is always looking for online ways to be helpful and to offer value to our members. In addition to our videoconference on May 6th and our new Members Resources page, did you know that CAS has a YouTube channel? We will post a recording of our May 6th presentation here and you can find videos of other past meeting presentations as well:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyn4iFJORn9UtlUFL2xq9UQ. We hope to increase our library of videos over time. If you have a video of a demo or presentation that you would like to share with us, please email Robb McKenzie at [email protected].

CAS Portfolios - for Curated Venues
The CAS Artists' Portfolios page is not the same as the Members Gallery found on the CAS public website. It is designed as a way to present our more experienced artists to our venues that are seeking a consistent gallery presentation in their space. Artists must have a body of work available to exhibit and be capable of curating and installing their own exhibit to be eligible to enter their work into the CAS Artists' Portfolio for review by venue owners/managers. It is also recommended that the artist have an online presence, so the owner/manager can look at more work. Each exhibit features the work of one or more artists, selected by the owner/manager from the CAS Artists' Portfolio, then planned and executed by the exhibiting artist(s).
To be eligible for these exhibit opportunities, experienced members of CAS must submit three (3) representative images for inclusion in the Portfolio, as well as a brief artist's statement and a URL where more examples of artwork can be reviewed. http://www.creativeartssociety.org/artists-portfolio-application.html This portfolio is made available to interested venues seeking artwork. http://www.creativeartssociety.org/artist-portfolios.html The venue chooses the artists from the pool and works with the CAS Venue Coordinator to custom design shows for the coming year.
CAS Rotating Calls for Art are Automated At this time, exhibits remain in place and Calls for Art are Suspended, due to COVID-19.
The automation allows CAS to implement a consistent schedule, with the calls going out at least three weeks prior to the installation dates and reduces workload for the venue coordinators. Call dates have also been added to the CAS Website Exhibits Calendar (Home Page) for reference.

MUST I “QUARANTINE” MY ART WHEN IT RETURNS FROM AN EXHIBIT?
by Joyce LaBaw
When you get home or to your studio, hang or store your art where it won’t be handled for one to two weeks and then, most importantly, wash your hands.
Per Dr. David Aronoff, director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, “After 24 hours, the vast majority of virus is no longer infectious”. After 72 hours, the virus is only trace or undetectable on most surfaces.
This indicates that your art is not a high-risk source of infection. It is more important to follow the commonly recommended practices: wash your hands thoroughly and often, don’t touch your face, maintain 6’ physical distance and sanitize commonly touched surfaces in your car and home.
For additional COVID-19 information and guidelines, please refer to:
http://austintexas.gov/department/covid-19-information/community-resources or https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.
If you are considering storing your art in your garage or other storage area, be careful not to expose it to temperatures, conditions or compounds that could damage the medium. Know your media!
CAS Curated & Recurring ExhibitsAt this time, exhibits remain in place and Calls for Art are Suspended, due to COVID-19.
Curated Exhibits are managed by the Venue Coordinators and Curated Exhibits Chair. The CAS Portfolio is used as a starting point. If you are an experienced exhibitor interested in being considered for these exhibits and have not yet submitted, or would like to change your artwork displayed, please submit/resubmit your 3-image portfolio, a brief artist's statement and the URL to access your work to this web page: http://www.creativeartssociety.org/artists-portfolio-application.html. If you'd like to see the submissions already included in the Portfolio, you can do that here: http://www.creativeartssociety.org/artist-portfolios.html
Recurring Exhibits are managed by Venue Coordinators and the Exhibits Chair. They have Calls for Art that are emailed to all eligible members at least 3 weeks in advance of the hanging. Dates for Calls, Installations and Strikes are posted on the Creative Arts Society Calendar, which can be found at https://www.creativeartssociety.org/, near the bottom of the Home page. Agenda view is recommended.

The Prize will expand opportunities for the public, who may not be familiar with figurative realist painting, to learn more about the creative vision of talented women painters in this increasingly popular genre. Details can be found at https://www.anyartist.org/artist/call.cfm?id=2845 and might require registration (free) at anyartist.org.
